IRCTC Train Ticket Booking: Holi is about to come, so if you are booking a train ticket to go home on Holi, then definitely know about this trick related to ticket booking. Through this special feature of IRCTC, your train journey can become much easier. IRCTC offers the option of auto ‘class upgradation’ while booking tickets online.

Under this service, Railways gives the option of auto upgradation to the passengers while making train reservations on the official website of irctc.co.in. That is, if you have booked a ticket in sleeper coach, your seat will be upgraded to third AC.

There are three types of coaches in Indian Railways:- General, Sleeper and AC. You can travel in general coach by taking ordinary ticket. But this does not happen in sleeper and AC coaches, to travel in these you have to make reservation. Many times it happens that we have made reservation in sleeper coach but our ticket is in AC coach.

This is how Railways took advantage of the upgradation scheme.

If you want to take advantage of this auto upgradation scheme, then you can only choose the auto upgradation option while booking the ticket.

There is no cost for upgrading ticket from sleeper coach to third AC.
No money has to be paid for auto upgradation service of Railways. Under this facility, IRCTC also upgrades the tickets of third AC people to second AC. Please note that the benefit of this facility is available only when a berth is available in the coach.

In fact, many times seats remain vacant in First AC and Second AC. The biggest reason for this is that their rent is very high. In such a situation, Railways suffers loss if these seats remain vacant.
