IRCTC Ticket Booking: For train travelers, ticket booking will no longer be the same. If you book tickets online through IRCTC and struggle to secure a confirmed seat every time, you’ll now understand why. The Railways has made a major change to IRCTC rules to curb ticket black marketing and fraudulent bookings, which will directly impact ordinary travelers.

Why the Changed Rules

Millions of passengers book train tickets through IRCTC every day. As soon as advance reservations open, seats fill up within minutes. It has often been observed that touts and fake accounts pre-book tickets, leaving ordinary travelers empty-handed. Therefore, the Railways has decided to integrate Aadhaar verification into the booking process.

What is the new rule?

According to the new rules of the Railways and IRCTC, only those whose IRCTC account is verified with Aadhaar card will be able to book tickets during the initial booking window for advance reservation. This rule has been implemented from January 5th. Under this, passengers whose account is not linked to Aadhaar will not be able to book tickets online between 8 AM and 4 PM. However, passengers with Aadhaar-verified accounts will be able to book tickets from 8 AM onwards.

What will happen if Aadhaar is not linked?

If your IRCTC account is not linked to Aadhaar, you may miss the most crucial time for ticket booking. This is the time when the chances of getting a confirmed ticket are highest. Therefore, without an Aadhaar-linked account, getting a confirmed ticket will be very difficult.

Rules will become more stringent after January 12th

The Railways has clarified that this arrangement is not temporary. Until January 11th, users without Aadhaar-linked accounts will be allowed to book tickets for a limited time. However, after January 12th, online ticket booking will be discontinued for all day long from IRCTC accounts without Aadhaar-linked accounts. Ticket booking will be prohibited from 8 AM to 12 PM.

What are the benefits of linking with Aadhaar?

Passengers who have verified their IRCTC account with Aadhaar will be able to book tickets every day starting at 8 AM. They will receive priority in advance reservations and will be more likely to receive a confirmed ticket. Overall, the booking process will be easier for those with Aadhaar-linked accounts.

The procedure for counter tickets may also change

This change currently applies only to online ticket booking. However, OTP verification on a mobile number may now be required when purchasing tickets at railway counters. In the future, linking mobile numbers with Aadhaar may also be required.

If you want to book train tickets without any tension, then it is better to link your IRCTC account with Aadhar card as soon as possible.
