Indian Railways towards privatization: 151 private passenger trains to run on 109 pairs of routes in the country

New Delhi For the first time, private companies have been invited by the Central Government to run passenger trains on the Indian rail network. Ministry of Railways has sought applications from private companies for running passenger trains through 151 modern trains on 109 pairs of routes. The private sector investment in this project will be 30 thousand crores.

Each train will have at least 16 coaches, the maximum speed will be 160 km / h.

Private companies will be responsible for the maintenance of trains



Private companies will be responsible for financial arrangement, acquisition, operation and maintenance of trains. Railways has said that it will give these projects to private companies for 35 years.

The private company will have to pay the Indian Railways a share of the fixed haulage charge, the energy charge on consumption and the revenue fixed through a transparent bidding process. All these trains will have drivers and guards from the Indian Railways.
