Refund rules for e-tickets booked through IRCTC website/mobile app

As per IRCTC refund rules, you can cancel online e-tickets booked online and get refund through IRCTC platform (website or mobile app). Cancellation charges will be deducted from it and refund will be made to the account through which you made the payment.

Railway Refund Rules for Counter Tickets

  • If you cancel the ticket through PRS counter: Refund for over the counter tickets canceled through PRS counter can be taken over the counter itself, subject to deduction of cancellation charges.
  • If you cancel the ticket online through IRCTC, in case of online cancellation of over the counter ticket, you can get the refund within stipulated time at the station from where you had to board the train or one of the neighboring satellite locations of PRS. can.

IRCTC refund rules for confirmed tickets before chart preparation

The refund amount for a confirmed ticket, whether e-ticket or over the counter ticket, is calculated based on when you wish to cancel the ticket in connection with the departure of the train. The refund policies of Indian Railways for confirmed tickets are as follows:
48 hours before the start of the journey: Refund after deduction of minimum flat cancellation fee

  • ₹240 + GST ​​for AC First Class or Working Class
  • ₹200 + GST ​​for AC 2-Tier or First Class
  • ₹ 180 + GST ​​for AC 3-Tier, AC Chair Car, or AC 3-Economy
  • ₹ 120 + GST ​​for Sleeper Class
  • ₹ 60 + GST ​​for Class II
  • 48 hours to 12 hours: Refund after deduction of 25% of the original fare subject to minimum flat cancellation fee
  • 12 hrs & up to 4 hrs: Refund after deduction of 50% of basic fare subject to minimum flat cancellation fee
  • No refund is available after the train leaves.


Railway refund rules for confirmed tickets after chart preparation

  • In order to get refund of confirmed ticket after chart preparation (ie within 4 hours of commencement of journey), you will have to file a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt).
  • If no cancellation is done or TDR is not filed before 4 hours of train’s departure, refund is not applicable for confirmed ticket.
  • It will take at least 60 days or more for refund of ticket fare filed through TDR.

IRCTC Refund Rules for RAC Tickets

  • You can get a refund for your RAC tickets if you cancel up to 30 minutes before the train’s departure from the station. Refund is subject to cancellation charges of ₹ 60 + GST ​​per passenger.
  • To get the refund of your RAC ticket after chart preparation, you need to file a TDR at least 30 minutes before the departure of the train.
  • If you do not cancel your RAC ticket or do not file TDR within this stipulated time frame, you will not get any refund.
  • If you have RAC ticket which is confirmed at the time of cancellation, then refund rules will be applicable for the confirmed ticket.

IRCTC Refund Rules for Wait Listed Tickets

  • If you cancel your waitlisted e-ticket up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train, you will get a refund after deducting cancellation charges of ₹ 60 + GST ​​per passenger.
  • As per IRCTC refund rules, if you have a waitlisted e-ticket (GNWL, RLWL, or PQWL) and its status remains the same even after charting, you will get the fare automatically after deducting the applicable charges by IRCTC. will be refunded from
  • In case of waitlisted over the counter tickets, you can get the same canceled at the PRS counter or IRCTC website up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train and get refund from the counter.
  • If you have a waitlisted ticket which is confirmed at the time of cancellation, refund rules will apply for the confirmed ticket.

Railway Refund Rules for Cancellation of Tatkal Tickets

  • No refund is given if you cancel your confirmed Tatkal ticket.
  • In case of waitlisted tatkal tickets, you are entitled to refund as per waitlisted or RAC refund rules of Indian Railways. Refund will be given after deducting applicable clerical charges from the amount.
  • Please note that you will be given a full refund of your confirmed Tatkal tickets if you cancel it under any of the following circumstances.
  • The train is delayed by more than 3 hours at the station where you are to travel.
  • The train is set to follow a route you don’t want to travel.
  • The train is set to follow a diverted route and one or both of your source and destination stations do not fall on that route.
  • The coach in which your Tatkal seat has been allotted is not attached to the train and you have not been allotted a seat in the same class.
  • You are provided with a seat in the lower class in which you do not wish to travel.
  • However, if you travel in a lower class, you will be provided a refund of the difference between the ticket price and Tatkal charges, if applicable.

Railway Refund Rules for Cancellation of Premium Tatkal Tickets

  • As per IRCTC refund rules, you are not entitled to any refund if you cancel your confirmed premium Tatkal ticket. You cannot book RAC or wait listed tickets under PT quota. You will get your confirmed premium
  • Full refund of call tickets will be available in the same 5 circumstances, which have been mentioned in the Tatkal Refund Rules.
  • IRCTC Refund Rules for Partially Confirmed Party or Family Tickets

  • If you have a counter ticket instead of an e-ticket, you can surrender your counter ticket up to 30 minutes before the departure of the train and claim a refund.
  • If confirmed passengers on e-ticket decide to travel while RAC or waitlisted passengers have decided not to travel, you need to obtain a certificate from the Railway Ticket Checking Staff stating that.
  • You can get refund on the basis of this certificate provided you file TDR online within 72 hours of train arrival at your destination station. You will also have to send the certificate to IRCTC by post.

IRCTC refund rules for canceled trains

E-Ticket: If your train is canceled for any reason, you are entitled to a full refund of your E-ticket fare, whether you have taken a confirmed, waiting list or RAC ticket. Refunds to e-ticketed passengers will be credited to the account they used for booking. Counter Ticket: If you have counter ticket, you can get your refund from PRS counter. However, you have to cancel your ticket at any PRS counter within 72 hours of the scheduled departure of the train.

IRCTC refund rules for diverted trains

If your train is diverted from its specified route and you do not wish to travel through the new route, you can get a full refund of your ticket fare. For this, you will have to file TDR up to 72 hours of the departure time of the train from the station where you are going to board.

IRCTC refund rules for trains running late by more than 3 hours

  • If the train arrives at your boarding station 3 hours or more late than its scheduled time, you can get a full refund of your e-ticket. But make sure to file TDR online before the actual departure time of the train to ensure full refund.
  • Passengers with counter tickets can hand over the ticket to the railway authorities at the station from where your journey was to start and get a full refund from the counter.
  • No refund is admissible if you cancel, surrender your ticket or file TDR after the actual departure of the train.

IRCTC Refund Rules for Lost or Lost Tickets

  • Indian Railways does not allow refunds for tickets lost or misplaced by passengers.

  • If your unreserved ticket is issued in advance, you can get refund by presenting the same to the Station Master up to 24 hours before the date of journey. Clerk charges will remain the same.
