Indian Railways Food Plazas: After the recent decision taken by the Indian Railways, the passengers will have fun. Whereas this will give a major setback to IRCTC.

New Delhi : Indian Railways Food Plazas : After the recent decision taken by the Indian Railways, the passengers will have fun. Whereas this will give a major setback to IRCTC. According to the new decision, Indian Railways has decided to open food plazas, fast food outlets and restaurants for better food and experience for the passengers at the railway station.

Expected to benefit passengers
Till now this responsibility was with IRCTC. This decision of Railways will directly harm IRCTC. It is expected to benefit the passengers. Till now, IRCTC only makes arrangements for the passengers from food to other things. This will have a direct impact on the revenue of IRCTC.

Earlier IRCTC had the responsibility
According to the order given by the Indian Railways, 17 zonal railways have been given the responsibility of setting up food plazas, fast food outlets and restaurants. In such a situation, 100 to 150 food plazas will be opened at railway stations. Kushal Gupta from the research team of partner channel Zee Business said that negative development is being seen for IRCTC.

Why did this happen
Earlier the place allotted to IRCTC was Vacant. There was no revenue generation. Due to this the railways was suffering. Also, IRCTC could not set up food court due to high license fee and rail land rate. IRCTC said in a statement, ‘Due to poor location and lack of operational and financial feasibility, there were difficulties in setting up here.’

Request to reconsider the decision
On the other hand, IRCTC has asked the Railway Board to reconsider the order, according to which the Railways will now open its own food plazas, fast food outlets and restaurants apart from its catering unit to increase revenue. The Railway Board, in an order issued on March 8, had allowed its 17 zones to use the vacant spaces at stations for such units.

IRCTC spokesperson Anand Jha said, “IRCTC has requested the Railways to reconsider the decision.” IRCTC is currently operating around 300 food plazas. More than 75 new food plazas will be finalized in the coming time. Sources reveal that there are plans to set up 100-150 such outlets by the zonal railways.
