Information about this has been given by releasing official figures. Indian Railways has earned a record revenue of Rs 2.40 lakh crore in the financial year 2022-23. This figure is about Rs 49,000 crore more than the previous financial year. This has been told by issuing a statement from the Ministry of Railways. After the increase in railway revenue, it is believed that Ashwini Vaishnav can once again give exemption to senior citizens in rail fare.

Ministry of Railways issued a statement

According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Railways, the revenue from freight has increased to Rs 1.62 lakh crore in 2022-23, which is about 15 percent more than the previous year.

Revenue reached Rs 63,300 crore

The passenger revenue of Indian Railways increased by 61 percent year-on-year to reach Rs 63,300 crore. The statement further said that after three years the Indian Railways has been able to meet its pension expenditure. Over the years, the Railways had approached the Ministry of Finance to bear some part of its pension liability.

Railways reduced expenses

The efforts to increase revenue and reduce expenses have helped in bringing the operating ratio to 98.14 percent. This is in line with the revised target. According to the statement, after meeting all revenue expenditure, the Railways has earned Rs 3,200 crore on account of capital investment from internal sources.

How much freight does the Railways do every day

Indian Railways runs about 9,141 freight trains every day, which transport goods from every corner of the country. About 20.38 crore tonnes of goods are transported daily through them. Indian Railways also runs 450 Kisan Rail Services, through which 1.45 lakh tonnes of agricultural products are transported daily.

Earlier railway used to give discount in fare

According to the information received from the Ministry of Railways, all the citizens traveling in the train get an average discount of 53 percent on the fare. Along with this, Divyangjans, students and patients get many types of concessions apart from this exemption.
