Indian Railway: Indian Railways had ended the discount on tickets for senior citizens two years ago. Now an RTI has been revealed that during this period the railways have benefited more than 1500 crores.

Indian Railway Latest Update: Indian Railways had made many changes in March 2020 when the corona epidemic started. In the decisions taken by the Railways, it was also decided to suspend the concession given to senior citizens ticket concession on tickets. The general public suffered due to this decision, but on the other hand the railways have benefited immensely from it.

Revealed by RTI

This information has been received in response to the question asked under Right to Information (RTI) by Chandrashekhar Gaur of Madhya Pradesh. Responding to the RTI filed by Chandrashekhar Gaur, the Railways said that between March 20, 2020 and March 31, 2022, the Railways did not give concession to 7.31 crore senior citizen passengers.

Received total revenue of 3,464 crores

Railways benefited about 1500 crores by not giving concession to men above 60 years and 2.84 crore women above 58 years of age. The total revenue received from senior citizens during this period is Rs 3,464 crore.

Demand for restoration of concession rising

To avail the concession, the age of the female passenger should be at least 58 years while for the male passenger it is necessary to be 60 years. Train services were canceled for some time in the year 2020 and 2021, but now the demand for concession has started rising when the services return to normal.

A lot of discussion about railway concessions

The concessions being given by senior officers before Corona cannot be maintained. In the last two decades, there was a lot of discussion about the concessions given by the Railways. Several committees have recommended their withdrawal. As a result of this, in July 2016, the Railways had made concessions for the elderly optional.
