Indian Railway : Indian Railways has made an important change for the passengers. Now your bag will also be checked like in airports before boarding the train at big stations. This means that you will not be able to travel by train with too much luggage. If you travel by train with excess luggage, then passengers will have to pay the penalty and the charge for excess luggage. Railways is starting the checking of luggage at railway stations from big stations like Lucknow and Prayagraj division.
Electronic luggage machines will be installed at these stations
Railways will install electronic luggage machines at stations like Lucknow Charbagh, Prayagraj Junction, Banaras, Kanpur Central, Mirzapur, Aligarh, Govindpuri and Etawah. These machines will be installed to check both the weight and size of the passengers’ bags before entry on the platform.
The size of the bag is also important along with the weight
Till now most people used to check only the weight of the bag, but the railways have made it clear that from now on the size of the bag will also be checked. If a passenger’s bag is so big in size that it occupies more space than required inside the coach, then a penalty can be imposed on him. That is, even if your bag is within the prescribed weight limit, if it occupies more space then it can become a problem.
What is the discount on weight right now
Railways has allowed passengers to carry 10 kg extra luggage over the prescribed limit. But if this limit is exceeded, then passengers will have to book luggage.
If caught without booking, 1.5 times charge will be levied
Railways has made it clear that if during checking a passenger is found carrying more luggage than the prescribed limit and he has not booked luggage, then he will be charged 1.5 times the normal rate. In such a situation, carrying extra luggage without booking can prove to be costly for the passengers.
Why were the rules made?
Railway officials say that this change is necessary for both safety and convenience. Many times passengers board the train with so much luggage that it becomes difficult for others to sit or move around in the coach. Apart from this, extra and heavy luggage can also pose a threat to security. During the festival and holiday season, when the trains become crowded, such arrangements will reduce the problems of passengers.
