India has further strengthened its passport in the year 2022 . The Indian passport, which was ranked 90th last year in the list of the world’s strongest passports, has climbed six places to 84th this year as it now has access to 59 countries that do not require a prior visa. According to the ‘Henley Passport Index’, people with an Indian passport can now travel to 59 places without a visa. The index is based on data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA). India ranks 84th in the list. Oman is the new country where Indian passport holders can get visa-free, compared to 58 visa-free access destinations in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Germany, Spain, Luxembourg, Italy, Finland, France, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Portugal and Ireland have topped the Henley Passport Index.

Japan and Singapore top this ranking. These journeys reflect record-breaking levels of freedom. Passport holders from these two Asian countries can now enter 192 destinations across the world visa-free. This number is 166 more than Afghanistan, which is at the bottom of the index.

Over 12.8 million passports were issued in 2019 by Passport Issuing Authorities (PIAs) in India and abroad, making India the third largest passport issuer globally after China and the United States.
