To further improve the security parameters of the Indian passport, the Ministry of External Affairs has started the process of issuing e-Passports across the country. If you have got a new passport or renewed your passport on or after May 28, 2025, then your new passport will be an e-Passport.
Although, this new passport looks exactly like the old passport, but this passport has a chip on its cover below the Ashoka Pillar, in which all the information related to the passport holder will be fed. The e-Passport will not only stop the making of fake passports and fake passports by misusing documents, but will also reduce the time taken in the immigration process at the airport.
