Very Heavy Rain Alert: According to the India Meteorological Department, due to the formation of low pressure area in the Arabian Sea, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in many coastal areas. Heavy rains are expected in five states of the country for the next seven days. During this time, there is a possibility of thunderstorms along with rain.

Very Heavy Rain Alert: The India Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy to very heavy rains are likely in 5 states of the country for the next 7 days. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue over the west coast Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra and Goa during the next 7 days. Meanwhile, extremely heavy rains are expected in Kerala during 25 and 26 May. Coastal and ghat areas of Karnataka are likely to receive very heavy rains during 25 to 27 May and valley areas of Tamil Nadu on 25 and 26 May. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert.

Northeast India Heavy Rain Alert

Thunderstorms and strong winds with speed of 40 to 50 kmph are expected in Northeast India during the next 7 days. There is a possibility of good rain during this period. According to IMD, light to moderate rain is likely here. Very heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during 25 to 30 May. Very heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya on 29 and 30 May and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 27 and 28 May.

Very heavy rain likely in South Peninsular India? (Very Heavy Rain Alert)
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rain is likely at some places over Kerala and Mahe during 25 to 26 May. Very heavy rainfall is expected during 27 and 30 May.

Extremely heavy rainfall is expected over many areas of coastal and south interior Karnataka between 24 and 27 May.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected during 28 and 30 May.

Monsoon has entered

Monsoon has reached Kerala 8 days before its scheduled time. According to the Meteorological Department, this is the first time in 16 years that monsoon has arrived so early. Earlier in the year 2009, monsoon had arrived 9 days earlier. With a strong entry in South India, now the southwest monsoon is moving towards Maharashtra. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain on the west coast. The Meteorological Department estimates that the monsoon may knock in Maharashtra in 2 to 3 days. Usually the monsoon reaches Kerala on June 1 and spreads across the country by July 8. However, this time, breaking the record, the monsoon has arrived before time.

Low pressure area is developing

The depression formed over South Konkan coast has moved nearly eastwards at a speed of 18 kmph during the last 6 hours, the system has crossed South Konkan coast near Ratnagiri. It is likely to continue moving nearly eastwards over South Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and North Interior Karnataka and gradually weaken into a well-marked low pressure area during the next 12 hours.

Heavy rain in many areas today

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with heavy rain at some places is expected in Vidarbha, Marathwada, Konkan and Goa, South Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Apart from this, light to moderate rain with heavy rain at one or two places is also expected in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, South-East Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Andaman-Nicobar Islands. Sikkim, West Bengal, Northeast India, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and interior Karnataka may witness thunderstorms and rain with strong winds at a speed of 40 to 50 kmph. Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms may be seen in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, South Gujarat and Lakshadweep. Thunderstorms are likely at some places in Delhi, East Rajasthan, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh.
