IMD Rain Alert: Heavy rain warning in 8 states of the country, know the condition of your state

Heavy Rain Alert: The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert in 8 states including Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Kerala, UP.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains in eight states of the country. Due to the activation of the southwest monsoon and the low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal, torrential rains, strong winds, and lightning are likely in many states in the next 24 to 48 hours. The Meteorological Department has advised people to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.

These states got warnings

  • Uttar Pradesh: Heavy rains and strong winds (40-50 km / h) are likely in eastern Uttar Pradesh, especially Ballia, Gorakhpur, Ghazipur, Deoria, and Azamgarh from June 20 to 23. The risk of waterlogging may increase in the Terai areas.
  • Bihar: Yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain in Madhubani, Kishanganj, Bhabua, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Nawada, Jamui, Banka, Gaya, and West Champaran. There is also a danger of thunderstorms and lightning.
  • Jharkhand: There is a warning of heavy to very heavy rains in Ranchi from June 19 to 20. Schools from KG to 8th have been closed in Dhanbad due to red alert. Waterlogging and power supply disruption are expected.
  • Madhya Pradesh: Moderate to heavy rains and strong winds are expected in many districts including Bhopal, Indore, and Chhindwara. Farmers have been advised to remain alert to protect crops.
  • Chhattisgarh: Heavy rains and waterlogging may occur in Raipur and other parts due to monsoon activity.
  • Maharashtra: Orange and red alerts have been issued in Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, and Raigad. Extremely heavy rains and waterlogging are expected in coastal areas.
  • Kerala: Districts like Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Kottayam are on orange alert. There is a risk of high tide and heavy rain in the sea.
  • Assam: Heavy rain and lightning are likely in Dibrugarh, Charaideo, and Sibsagar along with thunderstorms.

Monsoon status

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has covered most parts of the country, except Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Monsoon may also enter these areas in the next 24-48 hours. The intensity of rain is increasing due to moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.

Yellow alert in Delhi

The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Delhi on Monday, predicting light to moderate rain, thundershowers and strong winds at a speed of 30-40 km/hr. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in the national capital settled at 36.2 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees below the seasonal average.
