IMD Rain Alert: The weather is expected to deteriorate in most parts of the country at the beginning of the second week of May. The period of rain, thunderstorm, hailstorm and strong winds will continue. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for different states of the country from May 8 to May 11, 2025. During this time, there is a possibility of strong storm, hailstorm and heavy rain at some places. The Meteorological Department has warned of thundersquall, heatwave, dust storm and extreme heavy rainfall for many states.
Strong thunderstorm and heavy rain in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of thundersquall with winds blowing at a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour in some areas of Gujarat and West Madhya Pradesh. Also, heavy rain and very heavy rain (especially Saurashtra and Kutch) may also occur at some places in Gujarat.
Danger of lightning and thunderstorm in many states
- There is a possibility of lightning and thunderstorm with strong winds in these states:
- At a speed of 40-50 km / h: Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.
- At a speed of 30-40 km / h: Assam-Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Kerala, Goa, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Telangana and Vidarbha.
Alert for hailstorm
IMD has also predicted the possibility of hailstorm in some states. These include – hailstorms may occur in Uttarakhand, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on May 8 and in eastern and western Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on May 8.
Possibility of heavy to very heavy rains
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in Gujarat state today. An alert for extremely heavy rains has been issued in Saurashtra and Kutch. According to the department, heavy rains may occur at isolated places in Uttarakhand and eastern Rajasthan, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Warning of dust storm and heatwave
According to the India Meteorological Department, dust storms may occur in western Rajasthan from May 8 to 11. The IMD has predicted a heat wave in Gangetic West Bengal.
Continuous rain in Northeast India
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rains with lightning and strong winds may continue in Northeast India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya etc.) for the next 5 days. Heavy rain is expected in Assam and Meghalaya on 10 and 11 May.
Condition of other states
- Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh – Light to moderate rain, strong winds and thunderstorms from 8 to 11 May.
- Bihar, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand – Lightning, thunderstorms and light rain may occur at isolated places from 8 to 11 May.
- Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana – Rain with thunderstorms from 8 to 9 May.
