IMD Alert! Warning of heavy rain till January 1 in 10 states, fog-cold wave in these state, know complete details

Very dense fog very likely over parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Rajasthan during next 24 hours. Dense fog is likely to continue in isolated parts of Punjab for the next four days. Apart from this, rain can be seen in some parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.


IMD Alert, Today weather Update: Three weather systems have become active again in the country. In fact, on one side where a low pressure area is seen arising in the Bay of Bengal. At the same time, there is a possibility of its emergence in the new year, while a low pressure also remains over Maldives and its adjacent Comorin area. Due to its conversion into depression, heavy rains will be seen over southern states for 3 to 4 days while a new Western Disturbance will be active over the Himalayas from the night of 29th December. In the event of active Western Disturbance, heavy snowfall has been warned in the surrounding hilly states including the peaks of Himalayas. In the event of heavy snowfall, the outbreak of cold will increase in North India. There are also signs of increase in the intensity of fog and haze.

Talking about the weather movement during the last 24 hours, rain has been seen in some parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh including Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal including South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. An increase in cold has been recorded after light rain. A drastic drop of 5 percent in the temperature has also been observed. According to meteorologists, rain can be seen today in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Eastern Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya including Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Nagaland and Rayalaseema including New Delhi.

Apart from this, orange alert has been issued for dense fog in many areas of New Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and North Western Rajasthan. According to meteorologists, visibility has reached a very low level. It seems difficult to see even up to 50 meters.

Weather system

  • The low pressure area is over Maldives and adjoining Comorin area. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards towards southeast Arabian Sea. With this system,
  • Lakshadweep and parts of South India are very likely to experience heavy rain and thundershowers on December 27.
  • Due to light moisture laden winds in the lower tropospheric levels, dense to very dense fog is very likely over parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Rajasthan during next 24 hours. A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from Thursday, 29 December. Chances of heavy snowfall are expected in the Western Himalayan region.
  • Severe cold wave conditions are expected from Sheetlahar in some areas of North Rajasthan. Cold wave conditions are expected to continue during next two days in isolated parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi. Cold day to very cold day is likely over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Rajasthan.

Cold day and severe cold day conditions in Punjab-Haryana as well

There will be dense fog in some parts of West Uttar Pradesh and Odisha including New Delhi. The intensity of the mist will increase. Whereas in Punjab-Haryana also, the situation of cold day and severe cold day is seen. Yellow alert has been issued regarding cold in some parts including Jammu and Kashmir division, North West Rajasthan.

Orange alert of cold wave in hilly states

Talking about other states of the country, cold wave conditions will also be seen in some parts of Madhya Pradesh including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh and some parts of Rajasthan. Terrible fog will remain in some parts of North Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. There will be drastic changes in the weather during the next 24 hours. Orange alert of cold wave has been issued in hilly states with dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

  • According to meteorologists, there is also a possibility of snowfall in Jammu-Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh and areas with high peaks in the event of Western Disturbance becoming active.
  • Apart from this, during 24 hours in the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland etc., cold day conditions will be created in some areas.
  • Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh including Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu etc. South Indian states and Northeast India will see rain.
  • Dense fog will remain in many areas of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha. Visibility can be estimated very low due to fog.

Rain continues with snowfall on the mountains

According to the Meteorological Department, along with snowfall, rain is also being seen in the Himalayan areas for many days. The process of rain will continue with snowfall on the mountains of Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand. In many areas, the temperature has dropped below the ear level i.e. in minus. Along with this, the period of drop in temperature continues in Uttarakhand and Himachal. The effect of the cold icy wind blowing on the mountains is also being seen in the plains of North India. Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand Punjab including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand are witnessing a rapid drop in temperature. People have been instructed to be cautious in many areas.

Rain fog warning in these areas

  • Widespread rain and thundershowers very likely over Lakshadweep, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
  • Rain is possible in some parts of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Dense fog may occur at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Coastal Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur.
  • Scattered rain or thundershowers are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim.
  • Cold wave conditions are possible in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.
  • Very dense fog may occur at isolated places over Northwest Rajasthan.
  • Cold day conditions are expected in parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab and isolated parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Northwest Rajasthan.
  • Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are likely in some areas of North Rajasthan.
