IAF’s 18 squadron ‘flying bullet’ to be operational amid tension from China

  • Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, the Chief of the Air Force, will begin operations of 18 squadron ‘Flying Bullets’ of the Air Force on 27 May, amid the ongoing tension in the Indo-China Army on the border in Ladakh. (Pic- Twitter / @ IAF_MCC)




  • The event will be organized at Sulur Airforce Station near Coimbatore. This squadron will be equipped with LCA Tejas aircraft. This will be the second squadron of the Air Force to fly Tejas.

  • Air Force Squadron 18 was formed on 15 April 1965 with the motto ‘rapid and fearless’. This squadron was flying MiG-27 aircraft before 15 April 2016. The squadron was resumed in Sulur on 1 April this year. (Pic- Twitter / @ IAF_MCC)

  • This squadron actively participated in the 1971 war with Pakistan and posthumously Flying Officer Nirmal Jeet Singh Sekhon was awarded the highest gallantry award ‘Paramveer Chakra’. This squadron built and operated the first ground of the Defenders of Kashmir Valley in Srinagar. (Pic- Twitter / @ IAF_MCC)
