Hyundai is officially tired of letting Maruti Suzuki have all the fun in the taxi market. As of Tuesday, December 30, 2025, Hyundai Motor India has crashed the commercial mobility party with its new ‘Prime’ range.

The thing is, these aren’t just rebranded base models. They’ve launched the Prime HB (hatchback) and Prime SD (sedan), essentially commercial-spec versions of the Grand i10 Nios and Aura. Or nothing. Let’s be real, with Maruti’s ‘Tour’ range dominating for so long, Hyundai is playing for keep-away now. Those too.

The “Prime” Pricing & Specs

Hyundai is going straight for the wallet of fleet operators and individual cabbies.

Model Starting Price (Ex-showroom) Engine Type CNG Mileage
Prime HB (Hatchback) ₹5,99,900 1.2L Kappa (Petrol + CNG) 27.32 km/kg
Prime SD (Sedan) ₹6,89,900 1.2L Kappa (Petrol + CNG) 28.40 km/kg

Field Notes: Why Fleet Owners Care

It’s an ongoing situation where the “total cost of ownership” is the only metric that matters.

  • The “47 Paise” Claim: Hyundai says the maintenance cost is a tiny 47 paise per km. If that holds up, it’s a game-changer for high-mileage drivers.

  • The Speed Governor: Both models come with a factory-fitted speed limiter capped at 80 kmph, making them legally compliant for commercial use right off the lot.

  • Morale & Comfort: They didn’t strip it totally bare. You still get 6 airbags, rear AC vents, and a Type-C fast charger. Plus, an optional 9-inch touchscreen for those who want to look “Premium.”

The Safety & Support Net

And here’s the kicker: they are offering an extended warranty that goes up to 5 years or 1,80,000 km. For a taxi, that’s huge. They’ve even set up dedicated “Fleet Care Advisors” at dealerships—basically a VIP lane for cabbies so they don’t lose money waiting for a service.

It’s a bold move. Hyundai is banking on their 1.2L Kappa engine—which has been their workhorse for a decade—to prove it can survive the 300km-a-day grind of a Delhi or Mumbai cab. Bookings are open for ₹5,000, and the cars are coming in three taxi-friendly colors: Atlas White, Typhoon Silver, and Abyss Black.
