MUMBAI — In a strategic move to disrupt the rapidly evolving mid-size electric SUV segment, Hyundai Motor India has officially rolled out its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model for the Creta Electric. By separating the initial cost of the vehicle from the battery pack, Hyundai has dropped the entry price of its popular electric SUV by a staggering Rs 7.04 lakh.

The base 42 kWh Executive variant, which originally required an outright purchase price of Rs 18.03 lakh, can now be driven home at an ex-showroom price of Rs 10.99 lakh, supplemented by a fixed battery rental usage fee of Rs 3.9 per kilometer.

The Economics of Creta EV’s BaaS Model

This structural pivot directly positions the Creta Electric against key segment rivals like the MG Windsor EV, MG ZS EV, Maruti e Vitara, and Toyota Ebella, all of which leverage similar battery-rental architectures to bypass the high initial acquisition barrier of clean-energy vehicles.
