Stage 1 of GRAP has been implemented in Delhi-NCR before Diwali. This decision had to be taken due to the pollution level remaining in the poor category. The first stage of restrictions will remain in Delhi-NCR.
Under this, burning of wood and garbage will be prohibited. Precautions will have to be taken at construction sites. According to CAQM, today (October 14), Delhi’s pollution level was 211 and in the poor category. It is estimated that pollution levels will remain in the poor category in the coming days. The AQI level in Delhi crossed 200.
Will anything change after Grape 1 is implemented?
- Dust control measures like use of anti-smog guns will be introduced in Delhi NCR under GRAP 1.
- Dust control measures must be followed at all construction and demolition sites.
- For projects larger than 500 square meters, it will also be necessary to follow the approved dust management plan.
- Open burning of garbage, leaves and other waste material will be prohibited.
- The use of coal or wood fuel will be prohibited in roadside food stalls and commercial kitchens.
- Hotels, restaurants and outdoor eating places will use only electricity, gas or other clean fuel.
- The use of diesel generators has been restricted. Diesel generators will only be permitted in essential or emergency situations.
- Vehicles that cause pollution can be fined or confiscated.
- Under traffic control, traffic police have been deployed at major intersections and drivers will be instructed to switch off their engines at red lights.
- Diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years will be banned in Delhi NCR.
The national capital recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 201 on Tuesday morning, which falls in the poor category. According to the International Medical Center (IMD), the minimum temperature was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees Celsius below normal. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 33 degrees Celsius.
