Delhi Office Hours Changed: In light of rising air pollution and traffic congestion in Delhi, the Delhi government and the MCD have decided to change office hours. The new timings will allow both departments to open separately to reduce road pressure during morning and evening peak hours and control pollution.

In view of the increasing severity of air pollution and traffic jams in the national capital Delhi, the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have decided to change the working timings of their offices. The main objective of this move is to reduce the rising pollution levels in the city and control the traffic pressure on the roads. Currently, the gap between opening and closing hours of both the departments is only 30 minutes, due to which heavy traffic jams and congestion are seen on the roads during peak hours in the morning and evening.

This not only causes inconvenience to commuters but also increases pollution levels. With the new timings, Delhi government and MCD departments will open at different times, which will distribute traffic pressure evenly and help control pollution levels in the city.

Current time and problem

Currently, many Delhi government and MCD departments have a 30-minute opening and closing time difference, leading to heavy traffic and congestion on the roads during the morning and evening hours.

Delhi Government: 9:30 am to 6:00 pm

Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD): 9:00 am to 5:30 pm
This slight difference causes more traffic congestion and increases pollution levels.

New times for winter

The Delhi government and MCD have announced new timings for the winter season (November 15, 2025, to February 15, 2026):

Delhi Government: 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD): 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
This change is expected to reduce both traffic and pollution.

Delhi’s air quality status

On Friday, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)’s “Sameer” app recorded air quality in the “very poor” category at 29 out of 38 monitoring stations in Delhi. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 300. The Air Quality Early Warning System has warned that Delhi’s air quality may remain in the “very poor” category for the next few days.

The primary objective of this change is to reduce both traffic congestion and pollution. Staggered opening and closing times will more evenly distribute road traffic during morning and evening peak hours. Furthermore, this will make travel easier for both employees and the general public.
