Just a few days ago, news came that Google had fired its entire Python team. Now a report has revealed that Google has also fired many people from its core teams.

There is currently a phase of layoffs going on in Google. Just a few days ago, news came that the company had fired its entire Python team. Now a recent report has revealed that Google has now fired many people from its core team. The report states that Google made several significant changes within its organization, resulting in the layoff of at least 200 employees from its “core” team. According to CNBC report, these changes also include shifting of some positions to India and Mexico. The search giant’s move comes just after its first quarter earnings report last week.

These teams were affected by restructuring

According to the report, restructuring has been seen in the core unit responsible for building the technical backbone for Google’s flagship products and ensuring the online safety of users. This move by Google has affected many key technical units including information technology, Python developer team, technical infrastructure, security foundation, app platform, core developers and different engineering roles.

Many posts shifted to India and Mexico

Records show that at least 50 engineering positions were eliminated in Sunnyvale, California. While internal documents show that many positions of core teams will be shifted to Mexico and India.

Informed employees by sending email

Asim Hussain, Google’s vice president of developer ecosystem, informed his team about the layoffs via email, also marking it as the largest planned reduction for his team this year. He emphasized the company’s intention to maintain its global presence while expanding into high-growth locations to work closer to its partners and developer community.

The company’s finance department underwent a restructuring in mid-April, with Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat announcing layoffs and position movements in Bangalore and Mexico City. Google’s search boss Prabhakar Raghavan said he plans to build teams closer to users in key markets like India and Brazil, where labor costs are lower.

Removed entire Python team

Earlier this week, Google laid off employees from its Python, Dart, flutter and other teams. The exact number of job cuts could not be ascertained. “As we’ve said, we’re investing responsibly in our company’s biggest priorities and the important opportunities ahead,” Google spokesperson Alex Garcia-Kumert told Tech Crunch.

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has been cutting its workforce since early last year due to challenges in the online advertising market. Despite recent improvements in digital advertising, Alphabet has continued to make layoffs across different departments this year. Despite these layoffs, Google reported its fastest growth rate since the beginning of 2022 and the company’s first-quarter profit margin improved. The company has also announced its first dividend and a buyback of $70 billion.
