Why is the price of gold falling?
The biggest reason behind the sharp fall in gold prices is the softening of trade relations between the US and China. The US halted its plan to increase duty on goods imported from China for 90 days, which led to a relief in trade tensions in global markets. Due to this, investors withdrew money from safe investment options like gold and turned to other assets. As a result, a big drop in the price of gold was recorded in both national and international markets.
Apart from this, geopolitical developments such as the possibility of a ceasefire between Russia-Ukraine and a reduction in military tensions between India and Pakistan also indicated stability in the market. This further reduced the demand for gold as gold is usually considered a safe option only in times of uncertainty. Also, the boom in stock markets and the strength of the dollar also put pressure on gold prices, due to which investors started selling gold while booking profits.
