Gold Hallmarking Rules: If you are planning to buy gold from today, then this news is useful for you. The Bureau of Indian Standards has made major changes in the rules for the sale of gold since April.

Gold Hallmarking Rules Changed From 1st April 2023: If you are planning to buy gold in the new financial year, then this news is for you. From today, those who buy gold will have to follow the new rules (Gold Buying Rules Changed From 1st April 2023). The Central Government, while changing the rules for the sale of gold jewellery, has made hallmarking mandatory in gold jewelery (Gold Hallmarking Rules) from today.

From April 1, 2023, any gold jewelery must have a 6-digit Hallmark Unique Identification Number (HUID) on it to be safe. While giving information in March, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) had said that in the new financial year, no shopkeeper would be able to sell gold jewelery without the 6 digit Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID).

The rule came into force from today

According to the circular issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs on March 4, 2023, now only the 6 number hallmark will be valid. Earlier there used to be a lot of confusion regarding the 4 digit and 6 digit hallmarks. Now removing this, it has been made clear from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs that only alphanumeric hallmarking of 6 numbers will be valid.

Without this no shopkeeper will be able to sell jewellery. It is worth noting that the government has been trying to implement new hallmarking rules to stop the sale of fake jewelery in the country for the last one and a half years. Now it has been made mandatory from today.

Know what is HUID number?

Significantly, to identify the purity of any jewellery, it is given a 6 digit alphanumeric code. This is called Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) number. Through this number you will get all the information about this jewellery. Scanning this number helps customers avoid fake gold or adulterated jewellery.

It is like a purity certificate of gold. It is worth noting that till June 16, 2021, it was not mandatory to sell hallmarked jewellery. But from July 1, 2021, the government had started HUID of 6 digits. To make hallmarking easier in the country, the government has opened hallmarking centers in 85 percent of the areas and work is going on continuously for the rest of the places.

What is the rule of selling old jewelry

Even though hallmarking has become mandatory for gold jewelery from April 1, 2023, if a customer goes to sell old jewellery, then he will not need hallmarking for it. The government has not made any change in the rule of sale of old jewelery sold by people. Old jewelery can also be sold without the 6 digit hallmark.
