The name of this scheme is Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. In fact, on May 1, 2016, this social welfare scheme was started under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make rural India smokeless. Under the Ujjwala scheme, free gas connections are given to women belonging to below poverty line families.

Who can take benefit of Ujjwala Yojana?
- Only women can get the benefit of this scheme.
- Only those who live below the poverty line can get this benefit.
- To take advantage of the scheme, the age of the applicant woman should be at least 18 years.
- Under this scheme a household should not have any more LPG gas connection.
These documents will be required to take advantage of Ujjwala Yojana
- BPL ration card
- BPL certificate authorized by Panchayat Pradhan / Municipality President
- A photo ID card (Aadhaar card or Voter ID card)
- A recent passport size photo
- Basic details like name, contact information, Jan Dhan/Bank account number, Aadhar card number etc.
- The female applicant should have a savings bank account in any nationalized bank in the country to get the subsidy amount.
How to apply for gas connection?
- First of all, you open the official website of Ujjwala Yojana www.pmuy.gov.in.
- Here you will get three options, Indane, Bharat Gas and HP.
- You can choose any one option as per your convenience and then submit by filling the requested information for new connection.
- If you want, you can also download the form and fill it and submit it to the nearest gas agency dealer.
- After document verification, you will be provided with gas connection.
Even if you live in a rented house away from home and do not have a permanent residence certificate ie address proof, you can still get a gas connection under the Ujjwala scheme.
