Free Electricity Scheme: Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the government provides up to a 60% subsidy for families installing rooftop solar panels, allowing them to benefit from up to 300 units of free electricity each month.
This scheme results in significant savings on electricity bills and also helps protect the environment by using clean energy.
Thousands of poor families in Chhattisgarh are relieving the burden of their electricity bills by joining the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. By installing solar panels on their rooftops under this scheme, they no longer have to worry about electricity bills of 2,000 to 3,000 rupees per month. Village resident Ramakant says that this scheme has helped him save money, which he can use for his family’s other essential needs. He wholeheartedly thanks Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving the gift of access to electricity to the country’s poor.
Objective and benefits of the scheme
The primary objective of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is to install rooftop solar systems up to 3 kW in homes across the country and provide 300 units of free electricity per month through a 60% subsidy. This will enable approximately 10 million families to save approximately ₹15,000 crore annually. This scheme will not only reduce electricity bills but also alleviate power outages and increase the use of clean, green energy. Under this scheme, the government provides facilities for solar panel installation through a digital application system at every state and panchayat level, ensuring benefits for all sections of society. This is also creating new employment opportunities, such as in the areas of solar panel production, installation, and maintenance.
Subsidy and Application Process
Under this scheme, the government provides a subsidy of ₹30,000 per kilowatt, totaling ₹78,000 for installing rooftop panels up to 3 kilowatts. The application process is simple, with applicants registering on the official website, pmsuryaghar.gov.in, by providing details such as their state, electricity distribution company, consumer number, mobile number, and email address. Following the application and receiving feasibility approval from the discom, the solar system is installed by a registered vendor. Upon completion of the installation, the system is verified by installing a net meter, and the subsidy is transferred directly to the bank account. This process is completely transparent and online, ensuring no hassles for beneficiaries.
Environment and a sustainable future for energy
The PM Surya Ghar Yojana is not just a scheme to save electricity, but a major step towards environmental protection and energy independence. This initiative of the Government of India is not only moving the country forward on the path of green energy but also strengthening the local economy. This scheme has promoted energy self-sufficiency, which will reduce pollution in the future and expand the use of clean energy. This scheme is proving to be a boon especially for the rural and urban poor, for whom electricity is no longer a burden of expensive bills, but a convenience for free consumption.
