Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and JMM leader Hemant Soren has got bail from the High Court. Hemant Soren will come out of jail after paying the bail bond. Hemant is an accused in the Ranchi land scam case. He was in jail for several months and was trying for bail for a long time. After hearing the arguments of both the sides on the bail plea, the court had reserved the decision on June 13.
During the hearing, senior advocate SV Raju, appearing for the ED, had said that Hemant Soren has illegally occupied 8.86 acres of land in the Bargain area. This is money laundering under the provisions of the PMLA Act.
Senior Supreme Court advocate Meenakshi Arora, appearing for Hemant Soren, had told the court that this is not a case of money laundering but of political vendetta. The central government has misused the ED in a malicious manner. The land does not belong to them and it is only an estimate of the ED.
