The airline said the decision came after the UK government moved India to the Amber List and the Indian government allowed UK carriers to operate additional flights, raising the weekly cap from 15 to 34 per week. British Airways will now operate 20 direct return flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad to London, Heathrow.
These flights will not only reunite many people who have been separated from their loved ones due to Covid 19, but also provide eligible students with convenient options to connect to the UK and US on American Airlines, the airline’s codeshare partner.
On the other hand, industry associations of Goa have urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to allow international chartered flights to the state from October. The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) have said that the move will bring a lot of relief to the state’s tourism industry, which is facing pressure due to the pandemic.
Industry bodies told the Chief Minister that chartered flights from countries like Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan should be allowed to land in Goa from October. At that time the tourism season starts in the state. Domestic tourists can enter the state on production of a negative report of COVID-19 or a complete vaccination certificate. But international tourists have not been allowed to visit the state since the pandemic began.
The organizations have demanded that international tourism charter planes should be allowed in the state from October so that foreign operators get time to prepare for it and also do not suffer during the tourist season.
