NGT has completely banned firecrackers from 9 November to 30 November due to pollution

After Delhi-NCR, West Bengal, Haryana, Rajasthan and Odisha, now Yogi Adityanath’s government has also banned burning of firecrackers in Uttar Pradesh. In the order issued by the Uttar Pradesh government, in 13 districts there is a ban on burning firecrackers completely, whereas in other districts, only green crackers can be sold. The Yogi government has issued instructions to immediately follow the order of New Delhi-based National Green Tribunal (NGT) on the sale and use of firecrackers and to promote the use of new technology such as digital and laser to celebrate Diwali.

The Yogi government has completely banned the sale and burning of firecrackers in these districts, there will be a ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in these districts from midnight of 9 November to 30 December. It has also been said in the instructions of the government that only green firecrackers should be sold in the districts where AQI (Air Quality Index) is slightly better. According to a government statement released on Tuesday, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi has instructed all the officers of the state police department to follow the order of NGT in this regard.

The order mentions districts whose NGT had expressed concern over the Air Quality Index. These districts are Muzaffarnagar (AQI Bad), Agra, Varanasi, Meerut, Hapur (Very Bad) and Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Moradabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Baghpat and Bulandshahar (Gambhir) respectively. In these districts, following the order of the NGT, instructions have been given to use new technology like digital and laser to celebrate Diwali.

The NGT has banned firecrackers from 9 November to 30 November due to the ever increasing pollution in Delhi and NCR. The NGT (National Green Tribunal) issued an order on Monday to completely ban the sale and use of all types of firecrackers in the National Capital Region from November 9 midnight to midnight on November 30. The NGT had said in an order that states and cities in the country that have ambient air quality in the bad category have been banned from use and sale of firecrackers from midnight of 9 November to midnight of 30 November. The order of NGT will apply.

The NGT also stated in its order that only green firecrackers can be sold and used in cities where the air quality is correct and only 2 hours has been given for this. This discount is given for Diwali, Chhath Puja, Christmas and New Year. It is worth noting that apart from Delhi, many other state and Union Territory Governments have already banned the sale of firecrackers on Diwali in their respective states. The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the police to strictly follow the order of the NGT.
