Family Pension Rules: After the death of the pensioner, these papers will be submitted, only then will the pension

However, there are many documents which are not required which cause nuisance to the family members and delay in starting the pension. All banks have been asked to expedite the process of settlement of all family pension matters with them.



After the death of the pensioner, the spouse or family members of the deceased are asked by the banks to produce a lot of documents for starting the family pension. However, there are many documents which are not required, causing nuisance to family members and delay in starting pension. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has asked all banks to expedite the process of settlement of all family pension matters with them.

These documents are needed for pension

  • Deceased pensioner and spouse holding joint account
  • An application for starting family pension
  • death certificate of deceased pensioner
  • Copy of PPO issued to pensioner (if available)
  • Proof of age, date of birth of the applicant
  • For family pension, the spouse or family members are not required to submit the details in Form 14 to the bank.

In case of death of pensioner and spouse

If another member of the family has been co-authorized for family pension then the above procedure is applicable.

If the name of other family member is not included in the PPO, a fresh PPO can be requested from the office where the deceased pensioner last worked.

To start family pension, the details of family members other than the applicant are not necessary.
