EPFO UAN Activation Guide: EPFO has released a new step-by-step guide for UAN activation. Now employed employees will be able to easily do PF services like balance check, claim and passbook download from home. This process is completely digital.
EPFO UAN Activation Guide: If you are employed and you have a PF account under EPFO (Employees Provident Fund Organization), then it becomes very important for you to activate the Universal Account Number (UAN). With this, crores of employees of the country will be able to get PF related services faster through digital platform. EPFO has recently released a visual guide and explained this process in an easy and step-by-step manner.
Why is it necessary to activate UAN?
UAN i.e. Universal Account Number is actually a 12-digit permanent number. EPFO issues it. It connects all the PF accounts of the employee at one place. When a person changes jobs, his new PF account gets linked to the old UAN. This makes it very easy to track PF balance, view passbook, update KYC and file claims.
In case of non-activation, neither PF passbook can be viewed nor online claim can be filed. Therefore, activating UAN is not only necessary but also mandatory.
How to activate UAN?
EPFO has explained the process of activating UAN in six easy steps:
Step 1: Visit the official website of EPFO epfindia.gov.in.
Step 2: Go to the “Important Links” section and click on “Activate UAN”.
Step 3: Enter your UAN number, Aadhaar number, full name, date of birth and mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
Step 4: Agree to OTP verification.
Step 5: Click on the “Get PIN” button and you will get OTP on your mobile.
Step 6: Activate UAN by entering the OTP. Now your account is ready for online services of EPFO.
These services are available after UAN activation
After UAN activation, employees can check PF balance, download passbook and file claim. Apart from this, information about PF transfer, KYC update and amount deposited by the employer can also be seen.
Keep these things in mind
- While activating UAN, enter the same mobile number which is linked to your Aadhaar.
- Fill all the information as per Aadhaar, otherwise OTP will not be received.
- Once activated, set a password for login and keep it safe.
EPFO’s focus on digital initiative
EPFO is constantly changing its system according to the Digital India initiative. Due to this, most of the PF related services are available to the employees sitting at home. This process is especially important for those who change jobs frequently or who do not get timely information from HR.
