Discover the Innovative Scheme Introduced by the Yogi Government to Boost Cattle Rearing

In a pioneering move, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken steps to bolster the cattle rearing sector by extending substantial subsidies. The scheme, aimed at encouraging the purchase of indigenous breed cows such as Sahiwal, Tharparkar, Gir, and Sankar from other states, has garnered attention for its comprehensive support package, covering transportation, transit insurance, livestock insurance, and more.

Scheme Highlights

The government’s visionary initiative seeks to promote indigenous cattle breeds by providing a significant financial boost to cattle rearers who acquire up to two cows of indigenous descent. This unique scheme comes as a boon for those engaged in rural areas, where livestock farming has emerged as a crucial source of income.

Financial Assistance Breakdown

Under this scheme, cattle rearers will be eligible for subsidies amounting to 40% of the total expenditure, with a cap of 80 thousand rupees. This financial assistance encompasses various expenses related to cow procurement, including transportation costs, transit insurance, and livestock insurance.

Implementation Phases

The implementation of this groundbreaking scheme is set to roll out in two phases. Initially, it will cover 18 district headquarters across divisions. Following the successful execution of the first phase, the scheme will be expanded to encompass all districts within the state.

Mandatory Procurement of Indigenous Cows

For beneficiaries to avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits, it is mandatory to purchase indigenous improved breed cows from other states. To facilitate the seamless transportation of cows, cattle rearers will be issued an authorization letter by the Principal Development Officer. Moreover, obtaining a three-year livestock insurance policy for the procured cows and transit insurance for transportation are essential steps.

Empowering Women Dairy Producers

A remarkable aspect of this scheme is its emphasis on empowering women dairy producers. Out of the scheme’s benefits, 50% will be directed towards women dairy producers and cattle rearers, ensuring gender inclusivity and socioeconomic empowerment.

Summary

With the introduction of this innovative scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government has demonstrated its commitment to nurturing the cattle rearing sector and providing tangible support to those engaged in this crucial rural livelihood. By offering substantial subsidies for the purchase and care of indigenous cows, the government aims to drive economic growth and foster sustainable livestock farming practices across the state.
