The Election Commission has issued these guidelines…
- The Election Commission of India (ECI) has amended the existing guidelines under Rule 49B of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961 to enhance the clarity and readability of EVM ballot papers.
- This initiative is in line with the 28 initiatives already taken by the ECI in the last 6 months to streamline and improve the electoral process and enhance voter convenience.
- From now on, candidates’ photos will be printed in color on the EVM ballot paper. For better visibility, the candidate’s face will occupy three-quarters of the photo.
- The serial numbers of the candidates/NOTA will be printed in International Indian Numerals. The font size will be 30 for clarity and will be written in bold.
- To ensure uniformity, the names of all candidates/NOTA will be printed in the same font type and in a font size large enough to be easily readable.
- EVM ballot papers will be printed on 70 GSM paper. For assembly elections, pink paper with specified RGB values will be used.
- Advanced EVM ballots will be used in the upcoming elections, starting with Bihar.
