E-Zero FIR : The Government of India has recently launched a new service called E-Zero FIR. Its purpose is to strengthen cyber security and speed up the investigation of major cyber frauds. This system has currently started as a pilot project in Delhi and in this, complaints of online fraud of more than Rs 10 lakh will automatically be converted into FIR. The government’s aim with this initiative is to take immediate action against cyber criminals and save time in investigation.
Complaints of cyber financial fraud of more than Rs 10 lakh will now automatically turn into FIR. This facility will be applicable to complaints made on 1930 helpline or National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). This new system has been started in the name of e-Zero FIR, which has currently started as a pilot project in Delhi. Amit Shah said that this will make rapid investigation and action possible and criminals can be caught soon. In the coming time, this system will be implemented in the entire country.
The Home Minister wrote in his X (formerly Twitter) post that the Modi government is working rapidly towards a cyber safe India. This new system will play an important role in curbing cyber criminals.
What is e-Zero FIR?
An official said that complaints of fraud of more than 10 lakhs registered on NCRP and 1930 will now automatically be converted into zero FIR. This FIR will be registered in Delhi’s e-crime police station and then sent to the cyber police station of the concerned area. The complainant will have to go to the concerned cyber police station within three days and convert the zero FIR into a regular FIR. In this process, I4C (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre), Delhi Police’s e-FIR system, and NCRB’s Crime and Criminal Tracking Network have been linked together.
Legal basis
This initiative has been launched under Section 173(1) and 1(ii) of the Indian Civil Security Code. Delhi Police and I4C have jointly created this new system so that the affected person can get his money back quickly and the culprits get strict punishment.
What will be the benefit?
- Making a complaint will be easier
- FIR will be filed immediately
- Recovery of fraudulent money will be easy
- Immediate action against criminals
