Supreme Court Bar Association urges controlled exit passes for registry staff and advocates as central transit closures disrupt apex court operations.
NEW DELHI — Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant stated on Thursday that the Supreme Court will step in if administrative talks with transit authorities fail to resolve the closure of key Delhi Metro stations.

The observation came after Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Vikas Singh mentioned the widespread transport disruptions before the bench, highlighting the severe inconvenience faced by advocates, litigants, and court staff trying to access the apex court.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) suspended entry and exit across 16 key metro stations in Central Delhi starting Thursday morning due to security precautions surrounding ongoing demonstrations led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

1. Proposal for Restricted Access via Proximity Cards
During the morning mentioning, SCBA President Vikas Singh proposed a controlled screening mechanism to allow authorized personnel to use the Supreme Court Metro station without compromising transit security.

🎟️ Verification ➔ Passengers holding valid Supreme Court proximity cards or registry passes.
🛡️ Exit Screening ➔ Security personnel screen passengers directly at station turnstiles/exits.
🔁 Train Diversion ➔ Non-authorized passengers remain onboard to proceed to open stations.
⚖️ Court Protection ➔ CJI issues circular: No adverse legal orders for non-appearance today.
2. CJI’s Directives and Judicial Position
Responding to the SCBA’s submission, CJI Surya Kant confirmed that the apex court administration had already initiated dialogue with DMRC officials earlier in the day to evaluate the proposal.

Operational Note for Commuters: While entry and exit gates across all 16 designated stations remain barricaded, DMRC has confirmed that interchange transfers remain functional at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat for transit across intersecting lines.
