DMK asks PM Modi to give exemption in customs duty on newsprint and increase advertisement rate


Chennai, The DMK has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to waive the customs duty on the newsprint. Along with this, the party also demanded to take steps towards paying the dues of government advertisement of newspapers and increase the advertisement rate by 100 percent.

Government’s support necessary to save the industry

The party has said that the industry has been badly affected by the lockdown implemented to overcome Kovid-19. He says that if this industry is not supported then it will be difficult for the 3 million people associated with this industry to live. The industry has faced a lot of problems during the lockdown.

The existence of newspapers has been questioned in the last two months  

DMK President MK Stalin said that economic activity has come to a standstill during the last two months, citing talks with groups of newspaper publishers in Chennai this week. This situation has put a question mark on the existence of the industry.

This industry was not able to meet its expenses also

Stalin, the Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, wrote in a letter to Modi, “The curb on proliferation due to the advertising revenue deficit and the Kovid-19 epidemic has threatened the industry. In this situation, this industry has not been able to meet its expenses.
