India is the land of festivals. Everyone looks forward to Diwali, which falls in late October. This festival not only holds religious and cultural significance but also brings long school holidays.
The confusion over the date of Diwali has created uncertainty about school holidays (Diwali 2025 date). The final decision on school holidays in India rests with the education departments of state governments, Kendriya Vidyalayas and private school managements.
In 2025, Diwali is coming in October. In many states, students will enjoy two phases of vacation. Due to slight differences in the dates of festivals according to the calendar, schools have to decide on which day to give the main holiday. Diwali, the festival of lights, lasts for five days.
Diwali will be a public holiday in Punjab on October 20. While in Bihar, this holiday was earlier on October 22. The General Administration Department issued a gazette in this regard. According to the department, the General Administration Department had earlier declared a holiday on October 22 (Wednesday) under the NI Act. Instead, the holiday has been declared on October 20 (Monday). This year (2025), Diwali will be celebrated on Monday, October 20, along with Lakshmi Puja.
The date of Navamas will remain till the evening of October 21, but due to Lakshmi Puja during the Pradosh period, Diwali will be celebrated on October 20 in most places. As a result, October 20 (Monday) will be the main Diwali holiday. In most states, Diwali holidays last for three to six days. The holidays run from Dhanteras (October 18) to Bhai Dooj (October 23).
