It’s Saturday, January 24, 2026, and if you’re in Delhi, you’re probably feeling that “post-rain” bite in the air. Yesterday was the wettest January day we’ve seen in three years, and the city woke up today to a sharp 6-degree drop in the minimum temperature. Or nothing.

The Delhi-NCR Chill: Field Notes
It’s an ongoing situation where the rain cleared the dust, but invited the fog back. Here’s the ground reality for the weekend and Republic Day:
-
The Temperature Plunge: Friday’s low was a cozy 13.7°C, but today Safdarjung recorded 7.6°C. Aya Nagar even dipped to 6°C. The thing is, while the nights are colder, the “sharp” coldwave is being held back by a series of western disturbances. Those too.
-
The Fog Factor: Visibility dropped to 400m this morning at Palam and Safdarjung. Expect “shallow to moderate fog” for the next six days. It’s that messy winter gray that makes morning commutes a bit of a gamble.
-
Republic Day Outlook: For the parade on Monday (Jan 26), the IMD is predicting a partly cloudy sky with temperatures between 7°C and 20°C. The thing is, another intense western disturbance is hitting on January 26–27. Let’s be real—don’t be surprised if the flypast happens under heavy cloud cover or light drizzle.
-
Gurugram’s Orange Alert: While Delhi is on “yellow,” Gurugram was under an orange alert until noon today. They got hit with 12mm of rain on Friday and are still bracing for gusty winds up to 60kmph. Or nothing.
-
The AQI “Window”: The rain washed the air, bringing the AQI down to 256 (Poor) from nearly 300. It’s a brief relief. The thing is, it’s already predicted to slip back into “Very Poor” by the 27th as winds slow down.

Delhi-NCR 7-Day Weather Outlook (Jan 24–30, 2026)
| Date | Temperature (Min/Max) | The “Ground” Reality |
| Jan 24 (Sat) | 7°C / 17°C | Generally cloudy; strong surface winds (10-20 kmph). |
| Jan 25 (Sun) | 6°C / 19°C | Clearer skies, but the coldest morning of the week. |
| Jan 26 (Mon) | 8°C / 20°C | Republic Day: Partly cloudy; shallow fog during parade. |
| Jan 27 (Tue) | 10°C / 22°C | Rain Possible: New disturbance brings light showers. |
| Jan 28-30 | 9°C / 21°C | Overcast; AQI likely to deteriorate back to ‘Very Poor’. |
And Here’s the Kicker…
The thing is, we just logged 19.8mm of rain in one day. That’s almost the entire month’s quota in 24 hours. Let’s be real—the “January dry spell” we were all complaining about is officially over. Those too. The ground is still damp, and with the humidity sitting at 100% this morning, the “chill” feels much heavier than the numbers suggest.
One side comment—if you’re heading to the Republic Day parade, the IMD says the peak fog will hit around 8:00 AM, just as people are entering. It’s an ongoing situation where visibility might be the biggest hurdle for the grand display. Or nothing.
