The Delhi government has restarted the U-Special bus service for students. These buses will run to many colleges including Delhi University, JNU, IIT and Jamia. 25 new routes and metro stations have been added.

The Delhi government has once again brought a big relief for the students. After a long time, the U-Special bus service has been restarted in the capital. This service will be especially for the students of big educational institutions like Delhi University, JNU, IIT and Jamia. This time not only the North and South Campus but also off-campus colleges have been connected to this service. Students who travel daily from Outer Delhi and Yamunapar areas will get direct benefit from this. 

Which colleges will the buses reach?

U special bus service will be run on 25 new routes. Some of these major routes are as follows-

  • Narela to Patel Chowk 
  • Paschim Vihar to Kirori Mal College 
  • Okhla to Khalsa College 
  • Vasundhara Enclave to Amar Colony Campus 
  • From Bawana via special stop at Khalsa College 
  • Dwarka Sector 21 to IIT Delhi 
  • Badarpur Border to Aurobindo College 
  • From Mukurba Chowk via Hindu College to Khalsa College 
  • Route from Art Of Living Ashram to Khalsa College – Delhi Metro 
  • Route from Narela to Indraprastha College – Delhi Metro 

Apart from this, many metro stations will also be connected to this service so that students can travel more easily.

What will the buses be like?

20 air conditioned electric buses will run in the U special bus service. Apart from this, 30 diesel-powered 12 meter long buses and 20 diesel-powered 9 meter short buses will run. Only student pass holders will be allowed to travel in these. The timing of the buses has been decided according to the college schedule so that classes can be attended on time. 

History of U Special Bus Service  

The U Special bus service was first started from Malkaganj depot on Diwali day in 1971. At that time the fare used to be only 50 paise. This service was at its peak in the 90s. When about 400 buses used to ferry 1.90 lakh students daily. At the same time, in the year 2020, it had to be stopped due to Covid and shortage of buses, which is now being started once again. 

What’s new this time?

This time U special buses will be AC ​​and electric. There will be a radio system in the buses for students, on which requests for songs and educational programs will be broadcast. Apart from this, the government’s aim is to provide affordable and safe travel to the students.
