New Delhi: Till now you must have seen and heard only underground corridor and underground metro stations of Delhi Metro, but in Phase-4, DMRC is going to build a complete underground depot for the first time for the maintenance of trains. The special thing is that this depot is not being built at many new places but inside the Tughlakabad depot of Violet Line of the already operational metro. This work will be done with such cleanliness that during this time the depot of the Violet Line will also continue the maintenance work of the trains as before and at the same time the new Silver Line of Metro to be built between Tughlakabad to Aerocity in Phase-4 below the ground. Depot will also be built.

Metro officials said that when this new depot is ready, Tughlakabad will become the first depot of Delhi Metro, where two different lines of metro trains of metro corridors will be maintained in the same depot. Despite being in the same premises, these two depots will have completely different work, as DMRC will install modern signaling system on the Silver Line like the Pink and Magenta lines of Phase-3, with the help of which later on this line also Unattended / Driverless trains. Operation system can be implemented. A separate and new p-way building will also be constructed inside the depot for the maintenance of the Silver Line trains and tracks. DMRC has started work for this.

One depot will continue to run, another will continue to be built.
According to DMRC Executive Director Anuj Dayal, a new metro corridor is going to be built between Tughlakabad to Aerocity in Phase-4 of the Metro. For this, such changes are being made by modifying the Sarita Vihar Metro Depot on the Violet Line, so that the metro trains of this new corridor can also be maintained in this depot. For this, a tunnel is being constructed through cut and cover method, through which Metro trains of Silver Line will be able to come and go at Sarita Vihar depot. This in itself is a very challenging project, because while on one hand the already operating depot has to be continued so that the operation and maintenance of the Metro trains of the Violet Line can continue as before, at the same time the new phase of Phase-4 Depot provision has to be made for the line also. For this, work will be done in a phased manner and with intensive planning, in such a way that there is no hindrance in the ongoing work in the operational depot and the work of construction of new depots also goes on.

This depot will be very special in this respect
When this depot is ready, it will become the first such depot in the metro network, where metro trains of two different corridors will be maintained, whose requirements will also be completely different from each other, because in both these depots. The trains coming for maintenance will also be of different types. While the Violet Line trains will run on the old signaling system, the new Silver Line trains will be based on the unattended train operating system. For this, 14 stabling lines, 4 inspection bay lines, 4 workshop lines and an internal heavy cleaning shed will be constructed in the new depot, in which washing and cleaning of trains can be done automatically.

One station, one depot, two metro lines
When the Tughlakabad-Aerocity Corridor becomes operational, not only will Tughlakabad station become an interchange metro station, but the metro depot here will also function as an interchange depot, from the elevated portion of which will operate violet line trains and the underground portion. There will be movement of trains of Silver Line. For this, an underground tunnel is being built inside the depot, so that trains can be sent on the line from there. In this sense, this depot will be very unique.

Features of Tughlakabad-Aerocity Corridor
23.62 km length
11 underground stations
4 elevated stations
19.34 km long underground
Elevated part of 4.27 km
