Damini app will warn you before celestial lightning strikes, learn how it works

This app was developed by the Indian Institute of Tropical Materials (IITM) Pune. So far more than one lakh people have downloaded this app in the country.

New Delhi: Every year many people lose their lives due to lightning falling in India, but before lightning strikes you can find out about it. There are very few people know that there is an app that gives alarms before lightning. This app named Damini alerts 30 to 40 minutes before lightning strikes. This app was launched about two years ago by the Union government’s Ministry of Earth Sciences.

 

This is how it works

 

After opening the Damini app, a circle showing the map of the location where the person is. This circle gives electricity related alerts in the next 30-40 minutes in a diameter of 20 kilometers. In the place where the person is present there is information about whether the electricity is going to fall or not, it is given in Hindi and English below the circle.

Meteorological Department also informs

 

According to the Meteorological Center, the Meteorological Department also gives information about the places of lightning falling through its website. The app also informs how to take safety and first aid along with the information of lightning. In the Damini app, it is also told that how to protect if lightning alerts are received while working in the field, during travel, while working around the house.



 

A million people have been downloaded

 

This app was developed by the Indian Institute of Tropical Materials (IITM) Pune. The Damini app is available on the Google Play Store on Android phones. So far more than one lakh people have downloaded this app in the country.
