DA Hike | It is known that government employees and pensioners are waiting for the announcement of DA and DR hike. However, the delay in the announcement of DA hike has created concern among employees and pensioners. Here is the latest update on the issue of DA hike for employees.
Lakhs of central government employees and pensioners are unhappy with the delay in DA (Dearness Allowance) and DR (Dearness Relief) payments. The Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers has written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, urging her to intervene and issue orders on DA and bonus payments before the festive season.
The central government increases DA twice every year. The first time from January to June and the second time from July to December. The second increase is usually announced in late September or early October. However, employees and pensioners are disappointed that they have not received the order yet. They were expecting to get the increased DA with the September salary.
“The instalments of DA and DR due from 01-07-2025 have not been announced yet. Earlier, these orders were issued in late September and three months’ arrears were paid in early October,” the confederation’s letter said, adding that the delay has led to widespread dissatisfaction among employees and pensioners.
Apart from this, the Confederation has raised another important issue. In view of the Durga Puja festival, the Confederation has urged the government to immediately announce the Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) and Ad Hoc Bonus. The letter has requested for immediate orders to provide relief to employees and pensioners before the festival. With Navratri and Dussehra starting in the first week of October, the announcement of the increase in Dearness Allowance is expected to be made even earlier.
DA is calculated on the basis of Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW). The formula used in this calculation is the average of the Consumer Price Index over the last 12 months. For the current calculations, 2016 is being taken as the base year.
Meanwhile, employees are still frustrated due to the lack of official announcement of the Eighth Pay Commission. Compared to the previous commissions, this time the arrangements are being delayed. The DA hike for July-December 2025 will be the last hike of the Seventh Pay Commission. The term of this commission will end on December 31, 2025.
