DA Hike Announcement: The Central Government revises the dearness allowance every year on 1 January and 1 July. This decision is usually announced in March and September.

Lok Sabha elections are likely to be held in the country in the months of April and May. Just before this, the central government can give good news to the government employees. Can announce increase in his salary. According to media reports, the Central Government may increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees by four percent in the month of March. Pensioners will also benefit from this. Let us tell you that dearness allowance is decided on the basis of consumer price index released by the Labor Bureau.

DA will be increased as per the approved formula based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission. Earlier in October 2023, the Union Cabinet had increased the dearness allowance for government employees and pensioners by four percent. With this, DA increased from 42 percent to 46 percent. This decision of the Central Government benefited 48.67 lakh Central Government employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners.

The government takes the decision to increase DA based on the inflation rate of the country. If inflation is high then DA will probably be increased further. The DA and DR increase is determined by the percentage increase in the 12-month average of the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI) for the financial year.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced in December 2023 that her government would give a four percent increase in DA to all its employees from New Year’s Day. Mamata had said, “I announce that all 14 lakh state government employees, all schools, colleges and universities employees and pensioners will get another installment of 4 percent DA from January 1, 2024.”

The Central Government revises the dearness allowance on 1 January and 1 July every year. This decision is usually announced in March and September. Both employees and pensioners will benefit after the upcoming DA hike.
