Cyber Fraud Without OTP: You must have heard many times the case of fraud by taking OTP and CVV or other details of the bank, but now fraud has started in a new way. Your account can be cleared even without OTP, CVV number and bank details. The fraudsters have found a new method.

Many such cases have come in the past. Cyber criminals are making silicon fingerprints and biometric machines and ATMs are being operated with their Aadhaar numbers and their duplicate fingerprints. Lakhs of rupees have gone missing from people’s accounts. Let’s know some such cases, in which lakhs of rupees were cheated.

Some cheating cases

Money was withdrawn from the account of the mother of a famous YouTuber Pushpendra Singh. Giving information on Twitter, YouTuber said that money was withdrawn from his mother’s account without any two-factor authentication. He said that even the alert message etc. did not come from the bank and when the passbook was updated, then the fraud came to know. This fraud happened through Aadhaar linked fingerprint.

In January this year, a similar case was registered in Gurugram, Haryana. With the help of fingerprints of a person, money was withdrawn from his account. However, when the fraud was detected, the biometric was locked using the Aadhaar app. At the same time, in the year 2022, a similar case came to the fore.

How to cheat

With the help of Aadhaar Enabled Payment Service (AePS), most of the people in rural areas and towns are withdrawing money with just Aadhaar card and fingerprint. According to NPCI i.e. National Payments Corporation of India, you do not need to provide any other information to withdraw money from Aadhaar Enabled Payment Service. Money is withdrawn from your account only with the help of Aadhaar number and fingerprint. In return, the customer service operator takes a commission of some money from you.

With the help of AePS, you can not only withdraw money, deposit it, check account details, etc. There is no need to activate AePS separately. If you have linked your account number with Aadhaar, then AePS system is enabled on your account. That is, you can use this facility.

How do fraudsters get hold of biometric information?

UIDAI has often maintained that no data was leaked from Aadhaar and all Aadhaar data except biometric information remains secure. During a conversation with The Hindu, cyber security expert Rakshit Tandon said that people’s Aadhaar numbers are easily available in photocopies, softcopies, on the internet. Cyber criminals also use AePS to extract biometric information of people. Frauds AePS machines by using silicon to withdraw money.

How can rescue

If you want to avoid this fraud, then keep your Aadhaar locked and use it by unlocking it when needed. Even if the data has been leaked, no one will be able to misuse your Aadhaar number by locking it. At the same time, fraud can be avoided by using the mask base.
