New Delhi, Business Desk. The stock market closed higher on the fourth trading day of the week. The Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex jumped 408.68 points to close at 36,737.69, while the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty jumped 107.70 points to close at 10,813.45. Out of 50 stocks of Nifty, 35 stocks closed in green mark while 15 stocks closed in red mark. During the day’s trading today, the Sensex at one time reached the highest level of 36,806.30 points, while it once fell to 36,422.30 points.

HDFC, RIL, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance and SBI were the top gainers in the index. Broader markets were positive with the Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap rising 0.4 per cent and 1.1 per cent respectively. Hindalco, HDFC, SBI, Bajaj Finance and Tata Steel were the top gainers on the Nifty 50 index with gains of up to 6.5 per cent, while Bharti Infratel, Coal India, Tech Mahindra, ONGC and Hero Moto were the losers.



All sectoral indices, except the Nifty FMCG, started the day in green. Nifty metal rose about 2 percent, while Nifty Bank and Nifty Fin Services rose 1.5 percent. Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma were also up about 0.4 percent.
