E-Aadhaar App: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is now going to launch a new QR code based e-Aadhaar system across the country which will be launched by the end of 2025. With the help of this system, Aadhaar card holders will be able to verify their identity digitally without any physical photocopy.
According to UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, currently out of the one lakh Aadhaar authentication devices present across the country, about 2,000 have been updated for QR support. After this, identity verification can be done with just one QR scan, which will make the whole process more fast and simple.
Update details from home using e-Aadhaar mobile app
UIDAI will also soon launch a new Aadhaar mobile app through which users will be able to update their personal information like name, address and date of birth directly from the mobile. Now there will be no need to visit Aadhaar service centers for these tasks. This app will also relieve users from the hassle of giving physical copies of documents and the entire process of update will become paperless and convenient.
New rules will come into effect from November 2025
According to UIDAI, from November 2025, one will have to visit Aadhaar service centers only for biometric updates (such as fingerprint and iris scan). All other changes like name, address, date of birth etc. can be done from the app itself. Along with this, UIDAI is working on a system that will authenticate the information of users directly from the government database. These can include birth certificate, PAN card, passport, driving license, ration card, MNREGA records and even electricity bill.
Identity protection will be stronger
This new system will not only increase convenience but will also reduce cases of identity fraud. QR based verification is currently being tested as a pilot project in some sub-registrar offices and the hotel industry to find out how safe and effective this system is. In this, the user’s information will be shared only when he gives explicit consent so that privacy can also be completely protected.
Special attention is also given to updating the Aadhaar number of children
UIDAI is now also running a biometric update campaign for school children. Under this, in collaboration with boards like CBSE, biometric information of children between 5 to 7 years and 15 to 17 years will be updated so that their Aadhaar records remain up to date with time.
