CGHS : The old website of CGHS has been closed. CGHS, the flagship health scheme running under the Ministry of Health of the Central Government, has launched the new Health Management Information System (HMIS) to improve its service system. This new digital system has come into effect from 28 April 2025 and now the old CGHS software has been completely replaced.
Why was the new HMIS system introduced?
According to the Health Ministry, the old CGHS software has been in use since 2005. Now the CGHS system was not up to date according to modern IT standards, cyber security and user experience. The new HMIS will increase the speed of service and provide a better digital experience.
Highlights of the new HMIS
1. PAN card based identification
Now every CGHS beneficiary will be identified on the basis of PAN number. This will eliminate the problem of duplicate records and make eligibility verification easier. Beneficiaries are advised to link their PAN card to their CGHS ID.
2. Improvement in online payments
Now all payments for CGHS will not be made through Bharat Kosh but only on the new CGHS portal www.cghs.mohfw.gov.in. This will eliminate problems related to errors and refunds.
3. First check the application, then make the payment
Now CGHS card applications will be checked first and only then payment will be allowed. This will reduce the number of cancelled applications and save time.
4. Changes in card can now be made online
Works like card transfer, adding or removing dependent members, change in pensioners category etc. have now become completely online.
5. SMS and email alerts
Now you will receive SMS and email alerts on every process, which will provide you the status in real time and there will be no need to follow up again and again.
6. Password reset required
All users are required to reset their password the first time they log in to keep your information secure.
7. DDO and PAO based department identification
Now your department verification will be done through Drawing & Disbursing Officer (DDO) and Pay & Accounts Office (PAO) code given in your pay slip.
8. New mobile app
The new CGHS mobile app (for both Android and iOS) is now available. These features will now be available in it.
- Digital CGHS Card
- Live tracking of application status
- E-Referral & Appointment Booking
- You can directly contact CGHS helpdesk and AD office
Remember these things
Applications which have not been paid till 27 April 2025 have been cancelled. Such beneficiaries will have to apply again through the new portal. All beneficiaries above 18 years of age are required to link their PAN card with CGHS ID. Cards already issued will continue to work as before.
