New Delhi The Ministry of Labor and Employment has announced to increase the Variable Dearness Allowance (Variable DA) of employees working under the Central Government. An increase in the VDA of these workers from Rs 105 to Rs 210 per month has been announced. This decision of the government will benefit more than 1.5 crore workers working under the center. This increase will be effective from April 1, 2021.

This will also increase the rate of minimum pay scale of employees and workers. This decision is related to the scheduled implementation of the Central Sphere. Also, it will be applicable to the Central Government Authority, Railway Administration, Mines, Oil Fields, Major Ports and all the corporations set up by the Central Government. This rate will also apply to contracts and casual employees or workers.

Chief Labor Commissioner (CLC) DPS Negi said, “Dearness allowance for Central Sphere workers has been increased from Rs. 105 to Rs. 210 per month.”

A statement issued by the Ministry of Labor said that it has revised the rate of Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) and notified it. This change will come into effect from April 1, 2021.

Employees of different categories working under various schedule employment in the Central Sphere have got a big relief from this increase in the rate of VDA. The increase comes at a time when the country is reeling under the second wave of Kovid-19.

The VDA is revised on the basis of the Consumer Price Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW). The Labor Bureau compiles this price index.

The average of the CPI-IW between July 2020 – December 2020 has been used for recent revisions to the VDA.

Union Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar has said that this amendment will benefit around 1.50 crore workers working under various scheduled employment in the Central Sphere across the country.

He said that ‘this increase in VDA will help the employees especially in the current circumstances of the epidemic’.
