Indian Railway Ticket News: Ahead of Diwali and Chhath, the railways have brought some good news. If you’ve booked a train ticket online and now need to change your travel date for some reason, you’ll soon no longer need to cancel your ticket.
The Railway Ministry is preparing to introduce a facility that will allow passengers to transfer their tickets to a future date in the same train and class.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has directed IRCTC and other agencies to expedite work on this. Currently, this facility is available only for offline tickets, but it will soon be implemented for online travelers as well. The Railways is working on this on a war footing. Very soon, passengers will be able to change the date on online tickets.
What are the rules on online tickets now?
Currently, if a passenger needs to change their travel date, they must cancel their ticket and obtain a new one. This incurs a cancellation fee. With the new facility, passengers will be able to change their travel dates without canceling their tickets, saving both time and money. This will reduce the burden on their pockets.
What are the current rules for offline tickets?
According to railway regulations, if your ticket is confirmed, RAC, or waitlisted, you can surrender the ticket 48 hours before the train’s departure to advance or postpone your travel date, provided there are vacant seats on the new date and a new reservation fee is paid. This same feature will soon be applicable to online tickets as well.
