Big News: Government’s instructions to employees – from now on every day take a ‘yoga break’ of 5 minutes

Yoga Break: The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has asked all the ministries to promote this app in an order issued two days ago. The order reads, ‘All Ministries and Departments of the Government of India are requested to promote the use of Y-Break App.’


New Delhi. Next time if you go to a government office and the officer tells you that he is taking a yoga break for 5 minutes, then there is no need to be surprised. In fact, the government wants their staff to be fresh during the work now. Therefore, all government employees have been asked to download an app Y-Break App. The methods and benefits of yoga have been told in this app. This app has been developed by the Ministry of AYUSH. This order was issued by the government on September 2.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), in an order issued two days ago, has asked all the ministries to promote this app. The order reads, ‘All Ministries and Departments of the Government of India are requested to promote the use of Y-Break App.’ The DoPT, in an order issued on September 2, said that the Android-based Wi-Break application should be downloaded.

The Ministry of AYUSH had launched the mobile application a day back in a big function in which six ministers participated. DoPT Minister Jitendra Singh was also present at the function and urged Law Minister Kiren Rijiju to make a rule on ‘Yoga break for five minutes at workplace so that people can take advantage of it.

The ministers present on the occasion performed the yogasana displayed on the app in the whole assembly. Law Minister Kiren Rijiju had said that this app will spread like wildfire. AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had said that the five-minute yoga protocol is specifically meant for working professionals to enhance their work efficiency. It is designed to reduce stress at workplace, refresh people and re-focus. It includes asanas, pranayama and meditation. The minister said, “We know that corporate professionals often experience stress due to their work. Keeping the working population in mind, this Y-Break has been developed, which will give some comfort to the employees at the workplace.


The DoPT order issued on September 2 said that the Ministry of AYUSH has designed and developed this app through an expert committee in 2019, a 5-minute yoga protocol for the workplace. The module was launched as a pilot project in six major metros (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai) in January 2020. The DoPT order said, “The response was very encouraging.
