A government official said the options being considered include fixing working hours for employees and paying employees for electricity and internet for additional expenses while working from home.

Consulting company also incorporated

A consultancy firm has also been roped in to help formulate a policy for work from home, the official said. Earlier in January, the government had formalized ‘work from home’ in the service sector through a standing order, under which the company and employees can work together with you to decide the working hours and other things. However, this move of the government was seen only as a symbolic exercise, as all the companies in the service sector including IT have already been giving ‘work from home’ to their employees under special circumstances.

Plan to create a comprehensive formal framework

In the changed era after Corona, now the government wants to set a comprehensive formal framework for ‘work from home’ in all sectors. Its purpose is to protect the interests of the employees in the changed situation. In fact, the practice of work from home has started since the corona virus knocked in the country in March 2020 . In many companies, employees are still working from home under work from home. Now that the new variant of the corona virus, Omicron, has also arrived, it is believed that again companies can ask their employees to work from home.

Many countries already have laws

Recently, the Parliament of Portugal has passed a law regarding ‘work from home’, under which a company cannot call or message its employee after the end of his shift. There is a provision of fine on the company for doing so. After Corona, there have been complaints from many employees that they are being made to work for more hours. Many times he has to face the unnecessary anger of his boss. In view of this, preparations are being made to bring this law.
