Big Alert to vehicle owners! Registration of vehicles older than 10 years canceled; Know what is the option?

New Delhi. The Delhi government has canceled the registration of more than one lakh 10-year-old diesel vehicles plying in the state. Now the owners of these vehicles have the option of getting electric kits installed in the vehicles or selling them in other states.


Officials of the Delhi Transport Department said that in the coming days, the registration of petrol vehicles older than 15 years will also be canceled. The number of such petrol vehicles in the state is more than 43 lakh. These include 32 lakh 2-wheelers and 11 lakh 4-wheelers.

The Delhi Transport Department has warned that if any 10-year-old diesel or 15-year-old petrol vehicle is found running on the roads, it will be confiscated and sent for scrapping. Owners of 10-year-old diesel vehicles can get electric kits installed or sold in other states by taking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Transport Department. As per the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Delhi government has canceled the registration of 1,01,247 diesel vehicles which have completed 10 years with effect from January 1, 2022. The vehicles whose registrations have been canceled include about 87,000 cars, while the rest are goods carriers, buses and tractors.

3 to 5 lakh rupees will be spent for the car

Officials said that eight electric kit manufacturers have been empaneled to install electric kits in vehicles. The department is also in talks with other manufacturers. More panels will be formed in the coming days. Automobile experts said retrofitting of old diesel and petrol cars and four wheelers would cost Rs 3-5 lakh depending on the battery capacity and range. He said that depending on the type of battery and manufacturers, the cost of retrofitting of two wheelers and three wheelers will be less.

Electric kit will get a range of 106 km

The electric kit included in the panel of Etrio Automobile can be used for both petrol and diesel four wheelers. It includes a 17.3 kW battery with a range of over 106 km. Other empaneled manufacturers are 3EV Industries, BUMA Innovative Transport Solutions Renewable, Zero 21 Renewable Energy Solutions, VELEV Motors India Pvt Ltd. All these manufacturers have electric kits with different battery capacities for two, three and four wheelers, the kit for petrol two wheelers manufactured by BUMA comes with a battery capacity of 2.016 kW and a range of 65.86 km.

Electric kit can be installed in 150 cc bike

Gogo A1 Motors CEO Shrikant Shinde said that the price of the electric kit depends on the range. Presently we are providing kits for certain models of two wheelers. Further kits will be issued for all motorcycles from 100 cc to 150 cc. In this, the kit with 100 km range costs around Rs 90,000. The Transport Department has advised public sector units and autonomous bodies of the Central Government and Delhi Government to scrap or retrofit unregistered vehicles owned by them.
